Why create fakapster ?
I decided to develop fakapster because I want to create a 'self-learning' blog update service. By self-learning I mean that it has a certain degree of 'AI' which enables it to categorized blog posts automatically using various techniques that I'm experimenting with.
In the near future, users may participate in fakapster by correcting it's automatic classification of blog post. This way, fakapster will improve to better itself in identifying posts with greater accuracy
I will display the 'auto-categorization' result once fakapster
is 'bright' enough. Other functionality such as manual ping
page and search functionality will be added later (read:very soon).
How can I add my blog to the list ?
This website update its database by using XML-RPC pings sent from supported blog clients (Wordpress, Movabletype, Typepad, Geeklog, etc).
To participate, simply put http://ping.fakapster.com/rpc in your blog settings and you are good to go!
For Wordpress users:
- Simply goto your Wordpress Administration panel
- Goto Options, then Writing
- Add http://ping.fakapster.com/rpc to textbox under "Update Services".
- You're done ! Your blog will appear in this website after publishing new posts (give it about 5-20 minutes)

For Other blog clients
I've made the Manual Ping Page for those who can't ping fakapster automatically (for blogger, blogdrive, livejournal, etc)
What is fakapster bot ?
User-agent: fakapster/1.0 (http://fakapster.com/crawl)
fakapster bot is a webrobot that retrieve latest posts from rss/atom feed after your weblog software (or you) send an xml-rpc ping. After some simple examination, your latest post will be displayed on fakapster homepage.
I don't want to be indexed by fakapster.com
Then don't send xml-rpc ping :).
If you are serious about not wanting fakapster to index your website, then upload robot.txt file in the root directory of your webblog/website:
User-agent: fakapster Disallow: /
This website sucks
This is because i'm not a web designer :). Rest assured that i'll get one to design it for me.
Is fakapster free ? Do I have to register?
Yes, fakapster is free, and no you don't have to register your blog to participate.
I have blogger/blogdrive/livejournal and I can't ping to fakapster
You can use the Manual Ping Page to ping your blog, Use it only when your blog client *does not* support sending automatic xml-rpc ping to fakapster (i.e blogger.com, blogdrive.com, livejournal.com).
